Dear HKEA Members,
Support
the "Graduate Employment Training Scheme"
The Bureau
of Economic Development and Labour has launched a new Government
employment initiative, known as "The Graduate Employment Training
Scheme" (The Scheme), to help fresh university graduates secure
employment. The Scheme aims to encourage employers to take on fresh
university graduates as their full-time employees and provide them
with on-the-job training and salary. The Government has reserved
HK$26 million for the Scheme. For each graduate engaged in the Scheme,
the Government will subsidize employers a monthly training allowance
of HK$2,000 for a maximum of 6 months. Seven Hong Kong universities
will be responsible for placing their own graduates into jobs under
the Scheme while the Labour Department will help other qualified
graduates of other local institutions and those returning from overseas.
Quality human
resources have long been an important ingredient for the success
of Hong Kong's economic development. To ensure a smooth transition
of Hong Kong into a knowledge-based economy and maintain our existing
competitive edge, Hong Kong's human resources should be given the
opportunity for sustainable development and adequate training. The
Hong Kong Exporters' Association fully supports the Scheme and would
like to encourage members to do so too by offering our fresh graduates
a precious training opportunity for their first jobs.
A list of contact
telephone numbers of the seven participating universities and the
Labour Department is provided in the attachment
for your reference. Members can contact the appropriate university
or the Labour Department if interested in taking part in or learning
more about the Scheme.
