 Australian Wool Innovation Limited steps up efforts to phase out mulesing 　

Members please be attentive to the commitment of Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) Limited in phasing out the practice of mulesing. In its open letter, AWI also disclosed that there is a developing market in Australia for non-mulesed wool and a special sale of this wool will be conducted. A certification system to identify mulesed and non-mulesed wool is being developed and supported by the Australian Wool Exchange, it said. 

Mulesing is the surgical removal of strips of wool-bearing wrinkle skin from around the breech of a sheep. It is a common practice in Australia as a way to reduce the incidence of flystrike on Merino sheep in regions where flystrike is common.
