HKEA Welcomes CE's policy address

The Hong Kong Exporters’ Association (HKEA) welcomes the policy address of Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen.

The Association especially appreciates the understanding approach of the SAR Government to addressing to the rising challenges faced by Hong Kong manufacturers and providing assistance for small and medium enterprises to upgrade their production facilities.

Commenting on the reduction of the standard rate of salaries tax to 15%, and profits tax rate of one-percentage point to 16.5% in 2008-09, Tom Tang, chairman of the HKEA, said: “The tax reduction will definitely bring tangible benefits to many Hong Kong companies as well as professionals, and increase the competitiveness of Hong Kong as an international trading hub.”

The HKEA is pleased with the emphasis given to cross-boundary co-operation by the government and it vows to help its member exporters grasp the unique opportunities available in China . “We strongly agree with the government that we should strengthen co-operation with China , especially Guangdong Province , to achieve a win-win situation. We appreciate the infrastructure projects launched by the government and believe that these projects will facilitate closer transportation connections between Hong Kong and the neighbouring regions in China . We hope these projects will speed up the logistics of merchandises coming through the border to Hong Kong ’s ports and airport and bring further growth to the exports and logistics industry. 

 “The Association will do our best to provide service support for our members and other exporters for business transformation and industry upgrades to capitalise on the immense opportunities available in China .”

Mr. Tang said the Association has every faith in Mr Tsang's ability to continue to lead Hong Kong ahead and it is looking forward to continuing to work with the government to further the HKSAR's economic prosperity.
