HKEA Launches HK$4 Million Assistance Package to HKEA Members

The Hong Kong Exporters' Association (HKEA) will launch a HK$4 million assistance package in a bid to help exhibitors at the HKEA Pavilion in the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair (Gifts Fair) and other HKEA members confront the current financial turmoil.
The package includes subsidies to HKEA members participating at trade fairs co-organized by the HKEA, its export marketing activities, seminars and networking events. To enhance promotion of HKEA members' products at local and overseas trade fairs, a special Exporters' Fair Edition will be published and distributed to international buyers.
The incentive package is aimed at strengthening the marketing efforts of HKEA members in order to prepare themselves for the challenges ahead.
The special initiatives include:
1. Subsidies to HKEA's export marketing activities and events
To enhance members' company image, booth layout and product display so as to attract more trade buyers, the HKEA will offer various incentives to exhibitors at the HKEA Pavilion of the Gifts Fair to expand their exhibiting area. Each expanded companies will receive service coupons which worth 15 percent of the additional exhibition fee.
Valid until 31 December, 2010, the coupons can be redeemed for a wide range of HKEA services, such as HKEA's export marketing activities, including both local and overseas trade fairs, as well as trade delegations, seminars, workshops, networking events and advertisements in HKEA publications.
Service coupons valued more than HK$260,000 are expected to give away to the HKEA exhibitors.
2. Free / special advertisement offers to increase exhibitors' visibility
The HKEA will publish a special Exporters' Fair Edition, allowing exhibitors to market their products to international buyers through HKEA's publication. HKEA exhibitors who successfully applied for Gifts Fair before 5 February 2009 will be entitled to a full-page advertisement in the Spring Edition at free and a 50-percent discount on additional advertisements. Other exhibitors of HKEA fairs can also enjoy a privileged discount of 50 percent in advertisement placement.
Advertisers can even make use of the HK$150,000 SME Export Marketing Fund offered by the Trade and Industry Department in this programme.
It will also provide more than 30 percent discount on advertisement placement for non-exhibiting members in its flagship publications, Exporters' Bulletin and Exporters' Fair Edition, allowing all members to widen their marketing reach without participating at trade fairs. These publications will be distributed to international buyers in the Gifts Fair.
More than 450 HKEA exhibitors and other 200 non-exhibiting members are eligible to benefit from this programme, which represents more than HK$4 million value offered by the HKEA.
3. Special networking events for exhibitors and buyers
To provide a networking opportunity for HKEA exhibitors to get acquainted with international buyers in a leisured environment, the HKEA will host the Fair Reception on the Cruise on 29 April 2009 during the Gifts Fair. The cruise reception will tour around the Victoria Harbour. In addition to all HKEA exhibitors and members, international buyers are invited to attend the receptions without charges.
Chairman of the HKEA, Mr. Tom Tang, said: "We are experiencing an unprecedented financial recession and shrinking market demand, however, it is during these difficult times that the HKEA has a duty, more than ever, to help Hong Kong exporters prepare to confront the challenges ahead."
Mr. Tang encouraged HKEA members to adopt a proactive approach to explore more business opportunities, particularly in emerging markets, by taking advantage of these incentive packages.
To bring more business opportunities to Hong Kong exporters and help them run their businesses more efficiently, the HKEA will continue to explore potential emerging markets and their trade fairs, and organize practical workshops and seminars.
Despite the slackening economy, the HKEA will not shy away from organizing trade activities in potential markets such as Dubai, Japan, Malaysia and India. At the end of this February, the HKEA will join hands with the HKTDC to lead a business mission to explore the Indonesian market. Meanwhile, the emerging Russian market remains the focus of the HKEA, which will continue to lead Hong Kong companies to exhibit in a trade fair in Moscow in March and September.
